We are pleased to announce the launch of the Fish Health and Management Support (FSP) Program, a program under our Diagnosis Before Treatment (DB4T) Initiative.
This program is designed to provide free technical support to 100 practicing fish farmers in each farming community across Lagos and Ogun States. It aims to improve fish health, enhance productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices.
The program seek to support about 2,000 fish farmers in the region.
Fish disease diagnosis in Nigeria often relies on trial and error, lacking sufficient historical data on fish populations. Stress and sub-clinical illnesses in fish are frequently overlooked, yet they significantly reduce farm profitability.
Our Goal:
To help fish farmers spot inefficiencies, build health histories for their fish stocks using advanced fish health markers, and ultimately reduce antibiotics misuse and overuse while promoting sustainable fish farming practices in Nigeria.
Key Features of FSP:
1. Water Quality Analysis: Regular assessment of critical water parameters to maintain optimal living conditions for fish.
2. Microbial Assessment: Identification of harmful fish pathogens in water and fish to prevent and manage diseases effectively.
3. Fish Growth Performance Measurement : Monitoring growth rates to ensure optimal feeding practices and detect early signs of health issues.
4. Fish Health Status Monitoring : Routine health checks to track fish condition and prevent disease outbreaks.
5. Quick Emergency Response : Timely intervention and support during disease outbreaks to minimize losses.
6. Accurate Technical Recommendations : Expert advice based on health data and farm-specific insights to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Benefits of FSP to Fish Farmers
1. Improved farm productivity through proactive health monitoring.
2. Reduced losses due to diseases and stress-related inefficiencies.
3. Minimized reliance on antibiotics, promoting safer aquaculture practices.
4. Enhanced profitability through optimized growth and performance tracking.
The FSP is designed to bridge the gaps in fish health history and empower farmers with actionable insights to achieve sustainable and profitable fish farming.
